Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is intended to improve breast shape and position. Breast ptosis may be associated with ageing, gravity, pregnancy, breastfeeding or substantial weight loss. Mastopexy may be performed alone or combined with implants when additional volume is part of the individual surgical plan.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Surgery

By removing excess skin and tightening the underlying tissues, mastopexy changes the shape and position of the breast. The procedure itself does not necessarily increase breast size.

The procedure may also reduce the size of the areola or reposition the nipple. In smaller breasts with ptosis, a lift may be combined with implants to restore volume. In larger breasts, correction may be performed without implants. The surgical plan addresses breast position, asymmetry and tissue redistribution, including upper-pole fullness where appropriate.

The nipple position is also adjusted in relation to the inframammary fold. The degree of ptosis may be classified as first, second or third degree, or as pseudoptosis. More extensive ptosis may require longer incisions. Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and usually does not require an overnight stay.

Recovery

Sutures are removed after 10–14 days, when returning to work may also be possible according to the individual recovery and the surgeon’s instructions.

A surgical bra is worn for one month and removed only for bathing. Physical exercise should be avoided for four weeks.

For me, Dr. Moutsoudis is the best plastic surgeon. We went through a procedure together, and from the beginning he told me that recovery would be difficult, while other doctors do not say these things. He was completely honest and informative from the first appointment to the last. Even after the procedure, he came to see me three times at the clinic within 12 hours, and to this day, 18 days after the procedure, he shows concern almost daily about the healing process. His phone is always on, and he answers any question I have immediately, even at weekends. He has been by my side from the first moment to the last. Above all, the doctor is a very good person and an excellent doctor!! His results speak for themselves! Of course, I could not fail to mention his impeccably trained team: all excellent professionals, very caring, knowledgeable, kind and principled! My experience at Dr. Moutsoudis’s clinic will remain unforgettable! I am grateful and recommend him without reservation!

I have no words for the doctor. Five stars are far too few. I visited the clinic a short while ago, and he explained everything to me with great patience. Very approachable and, above all, a wonderful human being!!! And the result was fantastic!!!! By far the best plastic surgeon!!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a breast lift (mastopexy)?
A breast lift, or mastopexy, removes excess skin, reshapes the underlying tissue and repositions the nipple to address breast ptosis and position.
What causes breast ptosis?
Breast ptosis may be associated with ageing, gravity, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss or reduced skin elasticity.
Who may be suitable for a breast lift?
Mastopexy may be considered by women with breast laxity, ptosis or asymmetry who are at a stable weight. Smoking, future pregnancy and breastfeeding are discussed as part of the individual assessment.
Can a breast lift be combined with augmentation?
Yes. In selected cases of smaller breasts with ptosis, mastopexy may be combined with implants to increase volume and support the planned shape.
What incisions are used for mastopexy?
The incision pattern depends on the degree of ptosis. It may be limited to the areola, extend vertically, or use an inverted-T pattern.
How long does surgery take and what anaesthesia is used?
Surgery takes approximately 2–3 hours under general anaesthesia. An overnight clinic stay is not usually required.
How long is recovery after a breast lift?
Returning to work may be possible after 10–14 days. Sutures are removed, a surgical bra is worn for four weeks and strenuous physical activity is avoided according to the surgeon’s instructions.
Will there be scars after surgery?
Yes. The incision pattern is selected according to the degree of ptosis, and scars generally become less noticeable over time as healing progresses.
How long do breast-lift results last?
Results may be long-lasting, particularly when weight remains stable. Natural ageing and gravity continue to affect breast tissue over time.
What risks are considered with breast-lift surgery?
As with any operation, mastopexy involves possible risks. Suitability, preparation, surgical risks and postoperative care are discussed during the individual medical assessment.
How is breast-lift surgery planned in Thessaloniki?
Plastic surgeon Dr Andreas Moutsoudis performs an individual assessment in Thessaloniki and explains the mastopexy procedure and available surgical approaches.
